Competencies without a Classroom - Episode 21 - Recap

The world around you is constantly changing. Whether it be through a pandemic or the emergence of technology, you have proven yourself to be adaptable and resilient.

This week's guest urges you to be curious, be open-minded, and keep your options open. In doing so, you’ll find your path.

Meet Peter Lewis, Vice President of the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CSTF). CSTF works to help more Canadian families gain access to post-secondary education.

What you study may not be the be-all and end-all, and that’s okay. Through his own experience studying music and biology, Peter learned that the true value in a post-secondary education lies in the ability to be curious and open-minded.

It's most important that you're able to reflect on the transferable skills you gain while attending post-secondary in order to take them with you as you move through life.

In this episode, we chat about topics including:

  • The skills you develop during post-secondary education
  • How active listening and curiosity will set you apart from other candidates
  • The value of creative problem-solving
  • Peter’s strong opinion loosely held: that post-secondary education is a critical part of setting someone up for long-term success
  • How leadership is not about the title you have, as you can be a leader in any position you are in
  • How to practice curiosity and keep your options open

Are you interested in pursuing post-secondary education? If so, what are you hoping to study and more importantly what SKILLS are you hoping to take away from the experience?
